Reports To: Head Chef

Location: Virunga Mountain Spirits – Musanze

Virunga Mountain Spirits is a new craft distillery/agro-tourism site located at the foothills of the Virunga Mountains that will open in Musanze, Rwanda in October 2024.

The first product will be a premium craft potato vodka made with unloved potatoes sourced from the Winnaz potato crisp factory and local farmer cooperatives. Virunga

Mountain Spirits and Kinigi Grill prides itself on producing premium spirits and providing exceptional food, beverages and service to our patrons.

Job Overview:

The Chef de Partie will assist the Head Chef with all aspects of the kitchen, including food preparation, menu creation and stock taking. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and customer service. For all employees, we value a growth mindset, empathy, and eagerness to learn.

Key Responsibilities:

● Responsible for food safety, quality and stocks

● Support food preparation and cooking

● Help the head chef in creating food menus

● Full understanding of HACCP and other regulations

● Strict adherence to food hygiene and cleanliness

● Management of food waste

● Establish strong relationships with staff in other areas of the business, including production and front-of-house teams

● Monitor the quality and care of kitchen supplies and equipment; ensure proper handling and minimize breakages

● Work within and monitor activity according to a specified budget

● Assist with managing inventory and stock control

● Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

● Minimum of two years of cooking experience in a similar environment

● Degree in culinary science or related certificate preferred

● Ability to train and oversee staff at a basic level

● Understanding of kitchen procedures and hygiene

● Strong written and oral communication skills in English (French/Kinyarwanda a plus)

● Demonstrated time management skills

● Awareness of common dietary restrictions

● Credentials in health and safety training

● No criminal record
