Virunga Mountain Spirits is a new craft distillery/agro-tourism site located at the foothills of the Virunga Mountains that will open in Musanze, Rwanda in October 2024. The first product will be a premium craft potato vodka made with unloved potatoes sourced from the Winnaz potato crisp factory and local farmer cooperatives. Virunga Mountain Spirits and Kinigi Grill prides itself on producing premium spirits and providing exceptional food, beverages, and service to our patrons.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to join our finance team in a dynamic manufacturing environment. The accountant will be responsible for supporting the finance department in various accounting tasks, including the preparation and maintenance of financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with financial reporting. This role is ideal for an individual eager to learn and grow their accounting skills in the manufacturing sector.

Responsibilities: Financial Record Keeping:

○  Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the company.

○  Record day-to-day financial transactions and complete the posting

process.

○  Reconcile accounts payable and receivable.

○  Ensure early and timely bank reconciliations

○  Ensure timely filing, payment of statutory and tax obligations.

○  Handling petty cash entries and reconciliations

○  Assist with payroll processing and related activities.

Financial Reporting:

○  Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

○  Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all financial data.

○  Support month-end and year-end close processes.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

○  Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.

○  Analyze actual results compared to budgeted figures and provide

explanations for variances.

○  Work with department heads to develop financial plans.

Compliance and Auditing:

○  Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls.

○  Support the annual audit process by preparing necessary documentation.

○  Stay current with changes in accounting and tax regulations.

Inventory Management:

○  Manage and reconcile inventory accounts to ensure accurate valuation and reporting.

○  Conduct periodic physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.

○  Assist in developing and implementing inventory management controls.

Accounts Payable and Receivable:

○  Process vendor invoices and payments in a timely manner.

○  Manage customer invoicing, collections, and account reconciliations.

○  Review and verify invoices and expenses for accuracy.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Minimum experience of 3 years in Accounting & Finance preferably within an Auditing firm or a manufacturing environment.

●  Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory management.

●  Knowledge of accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Xero).

●  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.

●  Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

●  Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy.

●  Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.

●  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
