Our distillery is located at the foothills of the Virunga Mountains.
We are surrounded by rugged volcano peaks, the gorgeous Twin Lakes, Burera and Ruhondo — and forests filled with rare birds and primates — the largest of them the mountain gorillas made famous by primatologist Dian Fossey.

On a clear day the mountain is visible from our distillery site. The name has a famous history, too. In 1967, Dian Fossey established the Karisoke Research Center between Mt. Karisimbi and Mt. Bisoke. The center, called Kari, is where Fossey did most of her fieldwork with the mountain gorillas. The name honors her important legacy.
